Just Breathe
Earlier today, I had the opportunity to take part in a guided breathing exercise. And at first, it might seem easy. After all, we all breathe. But so many of us breathe shallowly. When was the last time you just breathed in a meaningful way?
Now before I keep going, I realize that breathing exercises, like any other self-care tool, might not be for everyone. If you’ve already tried breathing exercises and you know this is the case, you may feel free to skip the rest of this blog post. I won't be offended.
Yet if you are still here, still interested, that is great. The fact is breathing exercises are a great tool because your breath is something you always carry with you, so you can do it at home or travelling. And the other great thing about breathing exercises is that it is something that is constantly happening right now, in the moment. And so it has the power and the ability to anchor you in the present moment.
So often we find ourselves dwelling on the past or anxious about the future. Trust me, I know, I’ve been there and it is one of the reasons I started the LegalMind Society. Yet taking the time to focus on my breathing brings me to the present and helps alleviate my anxiety some.
Don’t get me wrong, when I first started breathing exercises and meditation, I struggled a great deal. If you find yourself in that boat, know that you are not alone. We can help. And if you are interested in learning how we can help. Email info@thelegalmindsociety.org to find out more.
And in the meantime, just breathe.
