Road Signs to Recovery
Lawyers often have a plan of attack, a road map they will lay out at the beginning of their case that says why they are right. Recovery doesn’t have as many right answers or absolutes as the law might, but there are road signs and a map you can follow to recovery. And peer support specialists (like what the LegalMind Society offers) can help find and follow those road signs.
Some of the road signs are warnings. They are telling you that you might be slipping into a depression, or relapsing on your recovery from substance abuse. They might be warning signs about how your mental health is impacting your work. Or your personal relationships. Or your sleep. It can be hard early on in recovery to recognize these signs, but a trained therapist or peer support specialist can help you identify and document them on a wellness plan. And once documented, it is easier for those around you, your support system, to also spot those warning signs.
Other road signs on the way to recovery include signs about when to get off of a certain medication, or when to change lanes to a different therapy style. Those in your life and other mental health professionals can help you identify these signs as well.
And when I say that it can be hard to identify them, I speak from experience. If it weren’t for some of the people around me who saw some of my warning signs, I might not have ever gotten the help I needed, and my life might have taken a very different turn.
