Support Groups
As some of you may have seen, The LegalMind Society will be opening up support groups next month for those in the legal community who might be struggling with mental illness. These support groups will be free, non-judgmental spaces that offer those in the legal community the opportunity to connect with others who are on their own journey through the worlds of law and mental health. And as I know all too well, knowing that you are not alone in your battle is such an important step in recovery.
Support groups do more than just offer individuals the chance to realize that they are not alone though. They can also be a space to talk openly about your feelings, something that can be hard to find, especially when anxiety constantly keeps you from opening up. They can help you feel less alone, and can help alleviate some of your feelings of depression and anxiety.
They also offer the chance to get a new perspective on your battles. Hearing about someone else’s journey can shine a new light on your journey. Additionally, you can sometimes hear about coping strategies and self-care tools that worked for someone else that maybe you haven’t tried before. Similarly, you can sometimes connect with new resources that you didn’t know were out there.
And since the support groups for the LegalMind Society will be virtual, that offers the added benefit of greater flexibility, and increased opportunity for privacy, or anonymity within the group.
So if you are an attorney, judge, or law student who is looking for some support, be sure to check out our support groups, which will be starting up next month, date and time TBD. Email info@thelegalmindsociety.org with any questions or for more information.
