Getting Out of Ruts and What It Can Do For Your Mental Health

Most of us, probably all of us, have fallen into ruts at some point in our lives. It can be dangerously easy to do so. And when you live with a mental health struggle like depression or anxiety, these ruts can feel like bottomless pits, trapping you in the dark shadows of your own mind and your own behaviors.

Unsurprisingly then, there is research suggesting that breaking routines and getting outside of your ruts can be highly beneficial. And summer can be a perfect time to do so.

The nicer weather invites opportunities for breaking out of ruts in big and small ways. It can be an ideal time to plan a vacation, or if you want to stay closer to home it can be great to start an exercise routine such as walking around the block.

It can be intimidating to think about getting out of a rut. Breaking routines can seem daunting if you look at everything that needs to happen. But breaking it down to a single step and a single day is where it all starts. It might not feel comfortable, but in the long run, it offers far more positives than negatives.

If you are feeling stuck, we here at the LegalMind Society get it. We’ve been there before too. Our peer support programs can offer the support you need to take that first step.

And often, that first step can be the start of so much more.
