You Are…
You are.
You are not alone.
You are not defined by your grades in law school, your result on the bar exam, or your position.
You are more than just a cog in the legal profession’s machinery.
You are important. You matter. Not because of your skill as an attorney, but because of your unique youness.
These statements shouldn’t be controversial, and yet to some in the legal profession they might be. Too often, the legal profession reduces legal professionals to little more than income generators. Too often, employers and the profession in general puts too much emphasis on bar exam results. Too often law students are made to think that their class rank impacts their value as a person.
None of that is true.
There are flaws in the noble profession of law and unfortunately you are the ones who suffer far too often. You are the ones that suffer the consequences of the legal profession’s failings. And unfortunately, until a majority of people within the profession are willing to acknowledge this reality, these failures will continue to be failures that stress an attorney’s mental health and well being. That shouldn’t be the case.
Recently, a couple attorneys with significant social media followings announced they were taking a break from the law. These comments sparked big reactions, and a big part of those reactions likely had to do with the fact that not enough legal professionals are honest about their needs. Yet until more individuals normalize such behavior, the profession will remain fundamentally flawed.
However, this isn’t a reflection on you. You matter. And that is why, regardless of the failings of the legal profession, we here at the LegalMind Society are here to support you.
You are not alone. We are here to help.
